Hello! I played piano for about 17 years as a kid and then dropped it for a few years. I was never good at sight reading and as an adult that doesn’t have a whole lot of time I have realized this has really held back my ability to continue enjoying piano as it is much more difficult to learn new pieces or even remember old ones without this skill.
I really enjoy French impressionist music and spend a lot of my time on those. Ravel is my favorite followed by Faure and Debussy and a few others.
I realize a beginners piano music book is unlikely to be recognizable as impressionist as beginners are unlikely to have the technique still I am curious about what music they would’ve taught their students with and whether they wrote interesting beginning material. I admire them all so much.
Since I can very easily play by ear I am trying to find beginner material I have not heard before. Figuring I can slowly work my way through a few books and hopefully sharpen up my sight reading.
If the French impressionists didn’t do much here I can also work with Romantic pieces. Any suggestions are welcome.
