I love my CA901 however there is one thing about it that REALLY irks me and has me using VSTs over midi rather than the piano sound.
I have gone in and turned soft pedal depth all the way up. And frankly I can barely tell when that soft pedal is down. I find my Macs VSTs handle it better. It’s especially apparent when soft and damper pedals are down simultaneously. It almost feels like the soft pedal is an EQ effect rather than actual recorded samples.
Curious of other people’s thoughts on this?
One thing that is possible. I always grew up playing on a very poor quality upright with a delightfully warm sound and perhaps a significantly over-exaggerated soft pedal sound. I realize every piano has its own soft pedal strategy and between manufacturers the amount of effect it has varies significantly. Perhaps the CA901 piano was sampled based on one with a really poor soft pedal effect?
When I have a soft pedal down I want a significantly muted and very soft/warm sound to the piano.
Is there any way to set up the settings so this is better?
