New grad psych job offer

Post Body

Hello looking for some feedback on a new grad offer.

Specialty: Psychiatry. They are looking for a PA to round on patients in SNF's so it would involve driving to multiple facilities. Main role would be managing medications and making dose reductions. Most patients are follow-ups and have already been established by someone else.

Schedule: M-F. Pretty flexible schedule with rounding on patients at least by 12pm each day. I am able to chart from home after rounding on my patients for the day. After speaking with current PA's working there it sounds like the average day is around 8 hrs. No call. No weekends

Caseload: Avg number of patients for seasoned providers is around 26 and the practice is willing to provide a scribe but then you are expected to see anywhere from 28-35 patients

Onboarding: Sounds pretty vague. The practice has training modules and would slowly ramp up my schedule. I would be one on one with a PA for a month or so. The SP's are always reachable by phone and I can staff how ever many patients I want with them.

Location: MCOL Southeast

Compensation: $120K base. no bonus structure

Benefits: 401k (3% match), 15 days PTO (including CME and sick days), major holidays off, Health/dental/vision, HSA, malpractice coverage

Pros: I am interested in psych. The schedule flexibility sounds nice. I have an interest in the patient population. I would enjoy getting psych experience as soon as possible with the possibility of transitioning to telemedicine in the future. Base pay seems good.

Cons: The lack of training and autonomy worries me as a new grad. The expected average number of patients to be seen daily seems high and would offset the nice sounding schedule. No SP's on site and only reachable by phone seems challenging to navigate as a new grad.

Comments

OP, this sounds exactly like my first psych job which I was at for 2 years. I was the only psych provider and my SP was only available via phone. I had 25-30 patients daily. No scribe. I had to spend a lot of time charting. For a job, it was meh, although I learned a lot since I only had myself to rely on. Message me if you want to talk.
