Tile / Pattern fill without "define pattern"?

Post Body

I'm trying to figure out a faster way to create fills from a copied selection. I'm playing around with different grids and patterns of small repeating "RGB pixel" type looks.

I'm using Edit-Fill and selecting "Pattern". This works, but it means before I used the Fill command I must choose "Define Pattern" and name it. I end up with a large list of patterns that I don't even want to keep, and it means lots of clicking/typing to try out different pattern ideas.

It seems like there should be a faster way to do this. Something like "fill with clipboard" or something. Is there anything?
