[Help] How can I stitch/merge these 5 shots of the sun and lens flare above the earth?

I've got 5 images from a video (taken from a cheapo video camera sent up with a weather balloon) that I'd like to stitch or merge together. I've tried the photomerge and panoramic tool in CS4, but I was hoping I could do better. It's decent, but that dark spot in the center is distracting...(and the rays don't quite match up...) What can I do to brighten it? What other approaches could I try? I'm not that familiar with the more advanced functions in photoshop.
