I want to start selling prints of my photos. However, I'm trying to figure out which is the best (economical) way to go about doing that. I've been looking at printers lately and have my eyes set on the Epson Artisan 1430. I'm willing to spend up to about $400 on a printer, but I'm not sure how much it would take to make the money back from selling prints. I don't want the thing to end up being useless to me and in a few months I'll be wishing I spent that $400 towards a new lens, or something. I'm only going to go as large as maybe 13x19, which this printer should be able to do, but I'm kind of curious if it can achieve the quality of print that people would want to pay money for. Maybe there's a better one out there you could suggest. I also have had nothing, but problems with printers up to now, so investing a lot money in one that might do nothing, but make me want to pull my hair out is another thing that worries me.
I've looked at Bay Photo and other places that do the printing for you. It sounds good if I got a bunch of pre-orders for wedding photos, or portraits, and would give a discount if I need a lot printed off at once. However, I do mostly wildlife and landscape photography and I don't think that would go well with the way I plan on working. I'd much rather someone give me an order and I could print off myself and deal with this locally. The big problem is I don't know how much money I could make with this, so it's hard to calculate the costs of both.
TL;DR: I guess what I'm asking for is just pros and cons of both and some advice from people with more experience in both of these options. I figure there's a lot of stuff I should know before I make up my mind.
