Faint noises in the attic. What could it be?
Post Body

Just moved from NE to AZ a couple of months ago. Living in a newish (2016) house in southwest Phoenix.

I’ve been hearing noises in the attic once or twice late at night, or early in the morning. It is too quiet to wake me up, but still noticeable enough to grab the dog’s attention. I haven’t looked up there yet. I’m worried I won’t like what I find.

It sounds like leaves lightly blowing across a wood floor, or like someone gently scraping bits of something on the floor. My imagination is racing with all kinds of pests, but I’m hoping a Phoenix veteran may be able to tell me what it may be, and if I should be worried.

Edit: no fruit trees next to the house, and it’s a tall, skinny, three-story house. A better way to describe the noise is that it sounds like someone sprinkling fine gravel on the drywall.

Edit 2: initial inspection of the attic shows zero signs of pests. It’s pretty tight up there, so I could only see about 30% of the attic, but it was very clean except for some dust. No bits of insulation strewn about, no droppings to be seen.
