My mother and some of the neighbors in her retirement home have started making handmade/crocheted items like baby hats, booties, blankets, stuffed animals, bibs, etc. and they'd love to donate these items to a hospital, group home, or shelter where they will be desired and used to help those in need. Although they are amazing at creating these items, they have no idea who to contact or how to get involved in the donation process.
They are not trying to sell these items and are not seeking any reimbursement for supply costs, they just really get a kick out of the idea that the things they make might help someone in need. I'd love to help them achieve this, but I'm not sure where to get started either. My first thought was trying to contact a hospital admin at like Phoenix Children's Hospital or the like, but I worry that hospitals may not want to take handmade items due to fear of allergies or other things, but is this common? Can anyone recommend some places that they know would take these types of donations and would truly benefit from them?
Any help/suggestions are much appreciated as I really feel like this new project has given my mom and her neighbors something positive to focus their time on and it seems to really light up their day.
