Help: Our neighbors died, and their trees could fall onto our property any storm now.

Post Body

Our neighbors have big eucalyptus trees. They've been unkept, and one of them hangs right over our house. The tree has gone through a lot of storms already, but I don't have confidence.

These neighbors recently had a fire in their house, and the place is abandoned now. We're in contact with their daughter/granddaughter, who comes by to visit every so often and check on the place.

What should I do? Ideally I don't want to be the one who spends the most amount of money on trimming/removing trees that I don't own. I've been told that the city can help remove/trim trees for free if it's too hazardous, but looking online and talking to folks outside hasn't given me a lot of leads. Is this true? Where can I go for more information?

You are going to spend a lot more money on replacing your roof. Best bet if you want your money back is to pay for the service and then take the neighbor to small claims court or work out a settlement agreement with them.
