Advice for future international students (Masters)

Hi! I'll be applying to canadian universities once I graduate from my current university here in the ph. This has been planned by my parents and I a few years ago. With that, I have been building my resume academically, and somehow, professionally. Do you have any tips in applying for a masters program in a canadian university? Do they reject applicants if they do not have a paper published in a reputable journal or is it merely just an advantage?
