happiness is a "choice"(?)

came across this tiktok video that said "things I wished I knew at 22". One of the lists included "happiness is a choice". I feel like this phrase is so overused to a point that we just say it for the sake of saying it. Is happiness really a choice? What even is the essence of being truly happy when you have mental health issues.

I am an optimist. I like looking at the brighter side of things, but I'm not a completely happy person because although I will choose to be happy nonetheless, sadness is inevitable. Especially in dating in the community. How can we secure our happiness in the aspects of dating, when trust is compromised?

edit: Idk if I am making sense but if you get it, you get it.
