Given I work in technology, I knew where it would go and was aware of the techniques the phisher would use. I immediatley clicked on the link - I will say "they" or "them" for lack of he or she - which was shared. (I use a less popular operating system and am unlikely to be hit with a trojan or block of malware given most of the code is targeted for other machines - binaries on one OS do not port over to another if or when the file structures and shells are different.) The link spawned several random URLs which were inconsistent and depending on whichever random algorithm generated them. So I called the phisher out. I told them that I know my shit, that I work with computers professionally - that there's no trying to hide it.
Oh, yes, then there's this simple tool called Virus Total which I used to research the phish bating link. Check out the virus scans from the infected URL here: https://www.virustotal.com/gui/url/ebc765a171285e4724e8046b12f2e23f7e65e9675e0916686b1d6287712ff719
... So just a heads up, if some random Redditor tries to lure you offline then sends a suspicous link leading to an unknown platform, simply calculate the hash of the URL or file - and I can tell you how to do that to - then upload the hash to virustotal.com. You can also simply copy and paste the URL there - either way. Just remember, there are resources and ways to research these things. Ask me about netstat and Wireshark and I'll explain in even deeper detail.
