Lately I’ve observed some extreme points of view regarding finances in this sub. Ultra frugal (more like kuripot) users who seem to deprive themselves of life’s every pleasure. Even necessities are scrimped on, with the ultimate goal of spending as little as possible. People with this mindset are then egged on, encouraged to take the saving even further. It gives one the impression that if you can’t cut that many corners, you’re irresponsible.

I do respect people who believe in frugality. I believe in being responsible with our finances - it’s why I joined this sub in the first place. I loved how this community shared the same ideal of financial empowerment. I loved how many users of this sub give such helpful and valuable advice.

But I wish we could also show a little compassion to ourselves and to each other when it comes to saving and spending. I want everyone here to remember that you are allowed to enjoy the money you work hard for. You are allowed to indulge yourself from time to time. And you shouldn’t punish yourself or judge others for not saving as much as you do.

Like all other things, it’s about balance.
