Firstly, big shout out to eagleapex for meeting up with me on the first day I was here and showing me around South Philly and taking me to get a cheese steak at Cosmi's. What an interesting neighborhood! Some parts of Chi have row houses, but nothing on the scale of what I saw walking around South Philly.

Thanks for all the great suggestions everyone gave me, I tried to do as much as I could and I know I'll be back to complete the remainder of the suggestions I didn't get to! Here's my journey:

Monday: Met up with eagleapex and grabbed a cheese steak at Cosmi's. Around the block from the meetup point. Walked past a Chinese store with a shit ton of chickens for sale and had a pretty good laugh. Once we parted ways I walked up 9th st to Fitzwater and checked out all the interesting stores, then on the way back I stopped for a pint at "Ray's Birthday something or another" and had a Rowhouse, I believe. Good beer! Dinner was at Triumph in Olde City, beautiful area. We started walking west afterwards and then started running into moments and then the Second Bank, and then Independence Hall. As a history buff, this was my favorite part of the city.

Tuesday: John's for lunch, dayum!! I knew the area around the Best Buy looked familiar. Glad I didn't have any run ins with them. The gf wanted to try Pat's for dinner, so I gave her the tour of South Philly, since I was starting to get to know the area pretty well! Pat's was sub par to say the least. Good call on John's!

Wednesday: Reading Terminal Market for lunch. Wow...this place was just amazing!! The place where I ate -I forgot the name- had an entire staff of women and they were dressed in old fashioned clothes. It was the only place I could get a seat, but it was real good food. I got the turkey sandwich meal. At night we got food down the block from Triumph and then decided to go for a walk by the river afterwards. She likes DMB, and we heard people talking about him playing in NJ. So we got on the ferry and went over to NJ. Ben Franklin Bridge, USS New Jersey, Philly from the other side. I'm not a fan of DMB, but the concert venue had an amazing view of the city from where we sat.

Thursday: John's for lunch again, this place is the shit! We hung around Chester until the evening and then decided to go into the city to get some ice cream. We went to the Franklin Fountain which was awesome and a great atmosphere.

Friday: John's again. Shits like crack. She wanted to go to the "Jersey Shore" that night, so I took it kind of easy on Friday. But I did mangage to make it to Yards, which was a great time. Really liked the Philly Pale Ale. At this point my trip in Philly was coming to an end. I was a little down, because I didn't want to leave. This is a badass city and I would move here in a heartbeat if I had the opportunity.

Side note: napalm needs to be dropped on the Jersey Shore.

Official cheese steak rankings

  • John's
  • Cosmi's
  • Some random pizza joint that delivers in Chester
  • Pat's

Thanks again for all the great suggestions everyone! I really felt like I got to experience your city to the max! 10/10, would do Philly again! If anyone is ever in Chicago and needs a ride or anything, hit me on the burner!
