For those who do the FanDuel/DraftKings thing, I'll throw-up my thoughts on some players. I like taking players 100x to really make it a fun experience if someone does what Phil did at the last major and ends up winning at 200x. If you want more of these leave a thumbs up and I'll make it more of a regular thing.
Matthew Wolff:
Wolff is a California kid with a killer swing with lots of power, more than enough for Torrey's flurry of 500 yard holes. He's down 20 spots to 32 in the world, and he's also been dealt a string of bad luck or been off form: DQed for an incorrect scorecard at the Masters, 8 rounds of 76 , and no top 25's since the Fall. To do a mental reset he stepped away from the game for a few months, with this making his first event in over 2 months.
"Just been taking time for myself and doing my thing. I mean, golf is hard, but we play a lot out here and I needed a little break, so I took it.” Link
Often traveling alone, Wolff shot an opening 83 WGC-Workday Championship at The Concession in late February and withdrew and immediately went back to his hotel room. Clearly, Wolff needed a break.
Let's reflect back on how sensational of a player Wolff is:
- 2019 NCAA Champ
- 2nd at 2020 US Open
- T4 PGA Champ
- Won the 2019 3M Championship
His mental reset break was the right way to flush out all of those bad shots and tournament placing. If there's any place he could put together the pieces, it it would be here in Southern California where he's surrounded by family and friends.
At 22 he's got a lot of golf left to play so I like to see him taking that mental health break and brushing off that sensational swing to see what he can put together at Torrey Pines.
