I’m currently a 1st-year BSCS major from UP Mindanao, and as you have guessed, I want to transfer to UPD, specifically, to their College of Engineering, because it I've always wanted to be an engineer, yet I wasn't given the chance to in my first year.
UPD’s COE stated that the applicants are only allowed up to two choices in choosing which course they would like to transfer/shift in. My first choice would be BS Chemical Engineering and my second would be BS Computer Engineering.
However, I am in a dilemma. I desperately want BS ChemEng as my course, and I’ve heard that they might let me in BS ChemEng, but it’s a low chance because:
One of the requirements of BS ChemEng is that the applicant must have passed the subject, Chem 16. The problem with this is that my current course doesn’t offer any subjects related to natural sciences.
From what I know, UPD is one of the best, if not the best, chemical engineering school in the Philippines. Hence, competition will be tight as slots will be limited and I'm sure that I'm not the only one trying to apply for transfer for this course. (some may even have better qualifications than I do)
Because of this, I have another choice. I would completely give up on ChemEng and make BS Computer Engineering as my first choice and make BS Electrical Engineering my second choice. Both only require math subjects and don't require any subjects related to natural sciences. This is definitely the lower risk choice and I am 60% confident that COE will accept my application.
Should I take the higher risk and go for my ultimate dream? Or should I settle for less and go for the safer choice?
Please give me advice on what to do. I would highly appreciate it.
