Years ago I was dating a girl we'll call Mary. Mary didn't work and lived rent free with me. She had only a few things she had to do - keep the house clean was her main one. At the time I was working a full time job, 2 part time jobs and going to school full time.
There was a period of about 3 weeks where I only saw the bedroom and bathroom - literally no other room. One day I got up, took my shower and decided to grab something from the kitchen. That's when I noticed the dishes were still sitting in the same water from almost 3 weeks ago with gnats flying around. I was super angry and frustrated that here I was busting my butt and she couldn't wash a couple of dishes.
I was going to wash them...but then my pettiness came to play.
I grabbed a couple of trash bags and took every pot, pan, silverware, plate, bowl, cup, etc and threw them all in the bags. I then drove them to a dumpster and chucked it all in.
She came home and I was sitting in the living room. She seemed surprised to see me and thanked me for cleaning the dishes and that she had planned to get to them. I just smiled.
She opened the cupboard and then another and another. She finally asked where everything was. My response was simple.
"Well since you seem to have issues with keeping dishes clean, I took care of the problem for you." She responded that her mom was supposed to come over the next night and what was she supposed to do?? My response..."Tell her, well mom, I'm not very responsible so I don't have any dishes, but I do have these really cute plates. Oh, and I suggest you find something to cook that comes in its own pan." If looks could kill, I would not be alive today lol.
Edit: for those that were asking - she ended up doing one of those Stouffer lasagna ready meals 😋 Her mom later told me that she got a great laugh out of it.
Also - I didn't care about throwing out the dishes. Everything was low end, low cost at the time.
