I live in a high cost of living area (near Seattle) and have been slowly adjusting my rates to have more of a work life balance. I have a day job but still take on clients. I run a clean ship, independently insured/bonded, hold an LLC and hire independent contractors to assist around holidays.
It's been a while since I have had someone get sticker shock, but I ran into that twice today and it's definitely making me worry about my increases for this year. Am I getting too close to the market ceiling? All my current clients are still grandfathered in at previous rates.
For reference, these services in my area and their rates: Kennels: $60 per dog. Nearby drop in only sitter: 40 min $35, 60 min $45, $10 per extra dog. Rover: $85-125 per night and $25-50 per second dog. Ignoring the outlier sitters who only charge $40-60 a night eeek! Uninsured sitter under the table: $50-75 a day.
This year's rates:
Extended Care (5pm to 8am mid day 30 min drop in) up to 1 dog and 2 cats. $175 Add a dog $30 Add a cat $15
Overnight (7pm to 7am) $95 up to 1 dog and 2 cats. Add a dog $30 Add a cat $15
Boarding (1 dog at a time only): $95
Drop in care (2 dogs or up to 4 cats): 40 min: $35 60 min: $45
I am a Seattle area pet sitter, you make me think I should charge more than I do! Thank you for posting!
