Newly pet sitting in my home…question about having dogs and cats in the same house
Post Body

I’ve been dog sitting for about 6 months now. I’m no expert and didn’t grow up around dogs or anything so it’s been a learning experience but a great side hussle. I work through a great company that has give me a lot of guidance and will continue to do so. But I’m eager for more advice.

I recently moved and decided that, instead of me going to the dogs, I’m going to have the dogs come to me. The company I work with has given me the ok and my first pups are going to spend a few days around Christmas with me. I’m hoping it goes well.

On to the questions. I would like to have a cat (prob 2). Or maybe I would foster a cat. I grew up as a cat person and I do miss having one around the house.

Obviously anything has to be run by the pet parents so they can decide what is best for them. I’m worried having a cat of my own might be too limiting though since many dogs don’t get along with cats.

But on the other side, what tools are there to having a cat that is ok with dogs? If I do get a cat, I’d like to be able to say to the pet parents that my cat is fine with dogs. Alternatively, I do have a spare room where the cat could stay for a couple days if there was a dog that just couldn’t deal. I wouldn’t want to do that a lot, but it could be a solution for a short term dog stay.

Anyway, advice about having cats and dogs together?

Any really just any advice about how to handle having dogs in my space?
