Ton of house flies under my covered porch every summer

I have a covered porch and every year I get tons of house flies under the roof. I thought maybe it was from the almost dead willow or my cat killing critters and leaving them around the yard. As of last fall, both the cat and tree are gone. Yet again, tons of flies. What can be the cause? Any way to abate? I've used fly strips, but they suck.
