Question on re-certification after expiry
Post Body

Hello all! I am a trainer now for 4 years. In my state it is not a legal requirement to even have a cert, which I believe after the first one is such a scam/ripoff. I have learned so much more and am a much better trainer than when I began, of course. Anyway, my ISSA cert has been expired since 2022, my job is asking for my license to hang it up. My question is, how could I potentially get recertified/continue education after a couple years of expiry? Do I need to retake the beginning certification? Thanks!

I have a meal prep business on the side, recertification for food safety standards is once every 5 years and it is a tiny fraction of the cost. Imagine if everyone said โ€œit is what it isโ€ rather than discuss what is the best option.

Thanks for the tip, did it all over again already ๐Ÿ˜‚

Interesting it correlates to when they are expected to pay their fees again. So if a trainer worked full time and could prove it, you agree they should not have to pay the fees and take another course. So if a trainer worked part time, say 20 hours a week, you believe only they should have to pay the fees and take another course?

Once you take it and pass once, I disagree you should have to continue to prove competency to a third party every couple years, all while paying a fee. The initial test should prove competency, and even if the bi-yearly courses were to actually prove something, I know many trainers who were very ineffective but had no trouble passing these open book tests. There are better solutions that wonโ€™t cost trainers $250-$600 every few years. Itโ€™s not the end of the world, but it appears as a scam to me.

Ah I see sorry for the confusion.

They are asking for my license so they can literally hang it up in my office.
