Hello. I always get good input here. I'm a new trainer. I have a new client I've seen once so far. She is 40, a runner, and in general good health. Unfortunately, she had to take two weeks off after our last session because our workout triggered this unexplained pain that she gets. I felt absolutely awful, but she doesn't blame me and said this just happens with weight lifting sometimes.
She gets random upper back and neck pain. It started after she had endometriosis surgery years ago and lots of different things trigger it. She's had an MRI, physical therapy, etc., and no cause has been found. She said she was comfortable learning some weight training but starting with very light weights.
Anyway, she really wants to weight train to get stronger but feels defeated now. We did a full body workout last time using very light weights (3-4 lb dumbbells). For upper body, we did standing rows, shoulder presses, chest press, and bicep curls. Her form was very good. She was in no pain the day of the workout but it started the next day.
I'm seeing her again very soon and I'm just nervous now. She's comfortable doing most lower body exercises, but now I am not sure what to program for upper body because I do not want to trigger any pain for her. She is open to using resistance bands. Any ideas?
