I posted a similar question in /r/Banking . I have been awaiting a refund from a Spanish insurance company (Sanitas). Sanitas uses the bank BBVA--a massive international Spain based bank.
For ~9 months I was attempting to get them to wire/electronically transfer my refund to one of my bank/investing accounts. It failed. Every time. After the umpteenth time I became convinced this was just user error on their end (I have repeatedly talked to my banks and gotten extremely detailed instructions on how to make the transfer).
So now we enter my current situation: Sanitas sent me a check! For my entire refund! Huzzah!
However...the check is from their BBVA account and is in Euros. Because of all the issues I have had I am terrified to ask them to cancel the check and try to send one in USD. I'm not even sure if they can do that.
So! Where can I cash/deposit this check? I have a Charles Schwab checking and investing account and was excited to believe that they accepted foreign checks. Unfortunately it turns out they ended the practice just a few days ago on Oct. 1st 2022. Anyone have any other ideas?
