Hello there everyone,
I was wondering if anyone had any experience when it comes to property gifting in the UK, and the associated costs etc that are involved? For reference, basically my Mother would like to gift me her house for a few reasons. One being that she is intending to avoid inheritance tax, the second being that she would like to get some works done to modernise it, but is past the age where she would be given a mortgage against it. So the plan was for me to receive it as a gift, mortgage it and carry out the works, and be the owner when she sadly passes. My understanding of this so far is:
She needs to live for at least a further 7 years
She needs to continue living in the house
She would need to pay me some sort of rent for the property
Is there anything else? Have i gotten information wrong? I will be going via legal council at some stage, just wanted to make sure we both really understood it before then.
Thanks in advance, and no worries if no one can help :)
