Can a store owner ask for my debit card to verify my ID matches?

Post Body

I am 20, so I went to a vape store to try and get some d8 and an elfbar. I handed the store owner my ID (supposed to be 21) and he said I was all good! So I was like sweet letโ€™s do it and then at checkout the man tried to ask me for a look at my debit card to see if it matches the ID. Well unfortunately for me the account was not in my name (not stolen (parents card)), so I left immediately and that was that. Now Iโ€™m wondering the legality of his question to ask to see my debit card and was wondering if anyone knew. Iโ€™ve heard of people checking ID for credit card due to fraud, but never checking credit card to confirm identification of the user buying.
