I live in Austin Texas and I am really wanting to have my own place this upcoming year.
For reference, I am 25 and have 10k in emergency savings. No car payment. Only debt I have is student loan debt.
I am looking at one bedroom apartments here for my mental health (canโt deal with roommates anymore) and also because my company is likely going to be WFH for the next year and I want my own space.
Most of the one bedrooms that include the amenities I need (w/d in unit, fitness center to save time money on a gym) would be around 35% of my gross income.
I am also very interested in personal finance and making sure I am smart with money. I have a car from a family member that I have already paid off so I donโt have that expense.
Is this doable for me? I guess I am overthinking it knowing I could save so much more with roommates. But I also really cannot do that anymore (until my bf and I move in together, likely next year.)
TLDR: is it worth it to spend the extra $ for one year on my own place, for my own sanity and happiness?
