So I just moved across the country for a job. I now make way more than I ever have driving a van and delivering packages for a company named after a famous river in South America. I currently make $16 an hour plus small bonuses for 40 hours a week (I also get paid weekly). This is about $2100~ a month after taxes or around $2400~ after bonuses. I pretty much have no savings do to the high costs of moving. My fixed expenses total to $675 food and travel (I mostly take the bus but sometimes uber if I wake up late.)
I donāt have a vehicle so I take the bus walk to work. Which totals about an hour and fifteen minutes of commuting to get to work 30 minutes early (if I take the next bus I would get to work 30 minutes late.) Driving would cut that down to 20-27 minutes. If I wake up late, I have to uber to work which costs $18-20.) The buses donāt run by three time I get off work but I mostly just catch a ride with someone who gets off at the same time.
I currently rent a room in a house. My land lord and his 11 year old grandson live in the house. I mostly just feel really uncomfortable where I live. It is very very cramped to begin with, and also the place has a really dirty feeling. It doesnāt help that there is a literal child that lives in the house so that makes me feel weird. I do have a girlfriend who lives one town over and neither of us feel comfortable hanging out at my place so we always do so at hers, which doesnāt seem fair. I pay $560 which isnāt too bad but Iām sure I could find an apartment for just a bit more or maybe even a similar price. I moved from a house before so I still have a ton of kitchen stuff all I really need to move furniture wise is a mattress and internet (I donāt watch cable).
I kind of want to pick one of these and get the other one done a month or two later so please give me any advice you could! Thank you so much for reading my long post I really appreciate any help I can get!
I am looking at both car max and carvana as they seem more my speed.
I just checked, Colorado has no rerun laws so Iāll have to go through what the dealership gives me. I have heard that Carvana(?) is pretty good when it comes to the whole ānot screwing youā aspect. Are they worth checking out?
I think your last comment got deleted because I saw a notification but canāt find it. I heard that once you drive the car off the lot then you are pretty much locked in. So if I drive it to the mechanic and he inspects it telling me itās destroyed on the inside, arenāt I screwed?
If I buy from a dealership donāt they already have the cars inspected? Or do I get it inspected on top of that? How much does it normally cost to have a mechanic inspect a car and can I even do that without owning it (does the dealer just let you take it to a shop)?
You make some good points. I moved to Colorado so at the moment summer isnāt too bad if I wanted to bike. But in a few months when winter comes Iāll have to be in a car by then so might as well do that sooner rather than later. I also have no idea how to by a car. Apartments are so much simpler by comparison. I was pre approved for an auto loan by Capital One (my main bank) but the nearest branch is almost an hour away. Wells Fargo and Chase are the only ānationalā banks with branches around here. Should I try opening an account with them? Or maybe see if theyāll give me an auto loan? My credit score is at a poor 510 due to quite the depressive episode where I thought blowing all my money and racking up credit card debt would make me happier so Iām sure that would affect any loan discussions.

Do these online sellers take payments from other auto financers because I only see the option for their own financing.
