I am 32 and have historically invested my 401k contributions in a target date fund given the terrible lack of options for creating my own mix with low expense ratios. However, the company Iām invested with does have an S&P index mutual fund. It seems like the performance is historically much higher over the long term for the S&P fund and as Iām 30 years from retirement I have no problem weathering market ups and downs. Am I missing something or should I move all my future contributions into the index fund instead of the target retirement date fund?
