Some background. I'm young, still not that responsible with my money. I do try to plan for my future somehow with Life Insurance (Went with a 5 year plan that has eventual money back after a set period of years) and investing into Company Stocks. But other than those, no actual savings other than a few hundreds stored for rainy days. I still live with my parents so I don't have any actual bills to pay outside my own (Asian Culture is nice about this) anyway... (EDIT: I live in the Philippines)
My mom popped the title question to me a week ago. The land is from her hometown. She doesn't remember the exact details about it (How many hectares, estimated value) and I'm too busy with work to scrounge it up myself. (But I'll try and see if I can update this during the weekends) But she assures me that it holds good monetary value.
Not quite sure if I should go for it. She offered it to my older siblings but they were more interested in the getting money when it eventually sells part. She was pretty adamant against not flipping it as soon as possible since she thinks with development picking up in her hometown that value could still go up.
She thinks that transferring the land to my name might cost me around $1000. With no actual savings and with other recurring monthly costs (Insurance, Commute, Groceries) I reckon I can probably save up to it in about a year or so maybe 3 years if I'm not that commited I earn about $500 a month which is ok in the country where I live in and my commute seems to take a significant third of that(Which honestly makes me consider just renting a place near my office to save on time AND money) .
I sincerely doubt that this is some weird scam or something from my mom so this is probably legitimate.
So... Should I go for it? I won't have to share it with my siblings when it does get transferred to me. I could also just wait for it to eventually sell and just split the money evenly with my siblings though but idk I think having something like this in my pocket could do me good in the future... I mean... They were offered the same deal and walked away from it, that's on them right? I'm honestly pretty game to go for it but I'm looking for other inputs here to confirm that I'm not getting a bit too over my head.
