Lost my job-need advice for a stop gap in-between
Post Body

Skip to the big page break for the finance side of this.

Backstory; About 2 years ago my old company bought out another company. It was a huge merger. Ironically we became part of the company that was bought out, not the other way around. Shit's been going downhill for the last year(year and a half). This company has become all about money profit and pressure. I'll admit I miss the old company, this company doesn't care about safety or your safety for that matter. Anyways, I had a minor accident that would have been considered an incident previously. (I drive a semi up here in the north east mainly NYC and North Jersey).

Anyways, my boss told me to come in today and review what happened. He's and old school mob type of guy, and we went for a walk and he told me that there's an 80/20 split that I wouldn't make it through this accident review call with a job. He said that the previous accident(over a year ago it was 2 votes shy of termination). And he said I'm not a gambling man, but you can plead your case and they may keep you because we need drivers. But he said the people that make these decisions at the new company don't care about your skill set, they care about metrics. And he said right now your metrics aren't in your favor. (its not my fault since I'm the dedicated NYC drivers so expect to be cut off and stopped short etc) He said that in this case it's better to resign then have a big black mark on your driving record. Her also said that I most likely would get paid out for my unused vacation and personal time if I left, (which would be allot 100 or so hours @$31)

With that I honestly believe that he was telling me what will happen, so I took the hint and I decided to put in my letter of resignation, I'm on my way over to drop it off and my uniforms after I post this.

Finances

Unfortunately this company also put me into a financial hole. I have $11,000 in credit card debt, and another $6,500 on another card (as a balance transfer). I also have a 401K loan for $7,800. Currently my monthly rent is $1,240.

Current Liquid assets I have $7,126 in my main bank (I have another 1/2 a paycheck coming in should be about $800 or so) Secondary Bank I have another $700 I have an investment account I run that is about ~$7,000 in cash value. It pays me about $800 a year in dividend payments. I also have about $20,000 in firearms. (although I prefer not to touch these as some are heirlooms and such. 401k I have $29,000 in cash in the account and a $7,800 loan on that 401K as well.

Debts Credit card 1=$10,392 (avia credit $607)@20% Credit card 2= $500 (gets paid off monthly) Credit card 3= $6,500@ 4.99apr that expires in 10/2019.I have a balance transfer on this card (This card has an available 6,500 limit on it but I don't use the card)

Monthly Burn Rent and Utilities $1,400 (Lease is up in 3/2019) Car insurance $135 Car payment $252 Credit card (above ) $300

Question

I went and talked to Discover Personal loans and they quoted me on an 84 month personal loan 19.99% which is very close to what I'm paying now. With that $20K was $444 a month, and $15K was $333.

I'm unsure what the terms are to break my lease at this point. And to me that would be the biggest monthly burn. My boss told me to jump ship to the company down the road (where several other of our company drivers went to). Currently my girlfriend just broke it off with me last Saturday, and she said that once schools over she wants to reconsider a relationship. I can't say this didn't have an effect but yes this was part of the reason for the accident.

I'm temped to try and transfer this balance onto another card to reduce the interest, part of me wants to sell off my investment account and try to get as close to 0 on that one card.

Or should I try to find a personal loan to cover this.

My dad told me to pack up the family camper and tow it back to Florida (I live in PA camper is in NJ). I was suppose to tow it down before around Thanksgiving, but now he said to take a few weeks off and try to decide on what to do. This to me makes it harder since I'm recently single and I don't think I could make it a month or two without a job and income.

Alternatively I do own a 1 ton dodge diesel and could tow boats with, its and older truck, but I don't think that it would be too hard to find work down in Florida for a few weeks.
