Hello PF folks!
I work in IT for a large company (fortune 25) as a contractor for more than 1 ½ years now (usually the company has a 1 year hire-or-fire policy, but no full time employee positions were available at the times so they kept extending my contract until one opened, or they could create one) and apparently I’m being brought on full time now! Finally! With this, I’m able to take advantage of the benefits: PTO, 1:1 401k matching, health benefits, full tuition reimbursement (I didn’t finish school) etc. that I’m eager at this stage to take full advantage of. Also with this, comes my first one-on-one with the boss tomorrow, where we go over goals, completed achievements… and most important of all at this time, compensation, which brings me to you guys now as a poster.
I currently make $21 an hour ($1 more from when I started from the transition from the initial 3 month contract to a longer-term contract, as the other 8 people brought alone initially were not extended) I have a few things working in my favor at this point, giving me what seems to be a small amount of leverage: I do the work nobody wants to do, literally getting thousands of obsolete computers and components, putting them on carts en route to our shipping dock, and recording make/model/Sn on spreadsheets, taking out HDDs, destroying them, and putting them on pallets and loading on trucks. Move Add Changes of users, averaging 20 a week. I do around 30 IT related tickets a week, end of life upgrades, and help desk support I am the youngest by around 10 years, and in decent shape, positive, take accountability and ownership, this is mostly why all of the labor intensive things are funneled to me.
I feel as if I’m worth much more for the amount of work I do, especially in comparison to others on the team, …I love the amount of work, and the tough schedules for completion, I just wish I was compensated more to reflect it. What are some of the things I can say in the meeting tomorrow to ensure I can get the most possible? Thanks! -p.o
