I just got an idea today while at the gym. I currently have a Capital One Venture One card with a $7,500 limit. Keep with 30% utilization, that is $2,250. What I am wondering is, could I get a second Capital One Cash Reward card (assuming with the same $7,500 limit) and use them to pay off each other, essentially reaping the rewards of spending $2,000 monthly?
For example, I would have two cards. I would charge $2,000 to both cards. At the end of the billing cycle I would pay each card off with the other card, thus spending $2,000 with each card monthly while keeping my utilization under 30%. By paying the whole bill monthly, I wouldn't be paying any monthly APR.
With my Capital One Venture card, I basically get $1.50 of travel funds for every $100 I spend with the card. So if I do this, that would net me $360 a year to apply towards travel cost. Add to this the cash back rewards I would get from the other card. Plus, with this closed loop of spending, the repetitive monthly utilization being under 30% would help build my credit score, correct?
My plan would be to charge the $2,000 to each card and then lock both cards up in my safe, so I no longer use them. I would then create a new savings account with $4,000, so when the time comes for me to stop the cycle, I'll be able to do so easily. This $4,000 would be separate from my security savings.
I feel like I'll get some "this is dumb/risky" comments. But, I don't know, this kind of seems like a genius idea to me, ha. I guess what I want to know is, are there any rules in place that prevent someone from doing this?
EDIT: Didn't proof read, fixed typos.
