Saving for college for my children (AZ)

We have a 1 year old daughter and have started saving for her college expenses. We expect to be putting away roughly $300 a month for her. I'm trying to research a smart plan for saving for her but don't really know where to begin. I'm not sure I want to do a 529 plan in case she ends up not going to college, I want her to be able to use it at some point to pay for a car/house/etc. Open to suggestions! Right now there is about $1,500.00 in her account.
