So a bit ago when I bought a piano even though I could've covered it in cash I decided to get it on an interest free loan. Two big reasons for this:
- Building credit
- I knew I could use the cash pre payments due to make some good interest
And it is a "real" loan too. Credit and background check. Hard pull on credit. They have my SSN. The works.
A few months have gone by and I was hoping to see this loan in my credit report eventually building my score. I know diversity of loans is a good thing here. And I will never own a car or a student loan, unlikely to own a house, and dont really do personal loans unless they are somehow interest free.
It didn't show.
So I called in. They said they would check in on it. Their answer is that they have had some sort of longstanding system issue so they just decided to no longer report to credit bureaus. And this will be their policy going forward.
FYI the loan was originally with Allegro I think before Synchrony Bank now runs it.
I guess I just feel a little duped. No harm no fowl here because I am not paying interest... but what if I were. Credit agencies just have the option to not report to credit bureaus? Is there anything I can do.
