Convenience of the Employer - paying NY taxes while working remotely in FL

Post Body

My employer just started taking NY taxes out of my paycheck. This sent me into a whirlwind of googling which led me to the "convenience of the employer rule" and sounds like I am in fact responsible for these taxes, but I wanted to get insight from someone who understands it better than I do.

  • my company has a physical presence in NY, CA, and FL. I live in and work remotely from Florida.
  • I worked for the company in person in Florida for a year, then switched to a different position that has me working remotely in March.
  • I am now supporting our NY market, so they have me tied to headquarters in NY. HR says I am considered "a NY telecommuter who sits in Florida".
  • for my current position, I will never step foot in NY (and don't need to step foot into any of our physical locations anywhere)

Thanks in advance to anyone who has any advice or insight.
