I am on 60mg of accutane (5th month) and my skin was finally clear, until about 2 days ago when it got super dry (I thought the dryness was from the accutane, so I moisturized extra). The next day (yesterday) I woke up with a rash like situation all around my mouth and nose and a little under my eye. I leave for a NYC trip in 4 days, so obviously not ideal timing for a random rash. After researching, I landed on perioral and perioctal dermatitis. I took off my gel nails. I switched toothpaste and shampoo. I stopped washing my face with my typical face wash (prequel cleanser) and stopped moisturizing completely. The only thing that has touched my face in the past 24 hours has been water. It seemed to be getting worse, so I went to urgent care to get antibiotics. The doctor gave me a shot of steroids and a 6 day steroid prescription, despite telling her that steroids make PD worse, and I need an antibiotic (she essentially said “you’re not a doctor” and brushed it off).
So I went to the store and bought everything I could get my hands on that might help/what I’ve seen recommended. I have to order sulfur soap or cream from Amazon, as well as azelic acid. Planning on trying diaper cream tonight.
My question is: out of the things you see here, what should I try first? Should I attempt to get into another urgent care and ask for antibiotics? Should I just wait the month until my dermatologist appointment? Honestly, as long as it’s cleared up a little before my trip I’ll be happy. Any advice is appreciated.
Doxycycline is the only thing that ever worked for me
