Hello, runners and walkers of r/penpals!
For a few years, I was a treadmill runner. I never saw anything more than a person or bird passing by the window in front of the treadmill at the gym, or the screen of the television in front of my home treadmill. I hiked outside often during that time, but for some reason, felt the need to stick to the treadmill for running. I thought it was easier to run on a constant loop. As I have come to find out, I can actually go longer and faster when I allow myself to experience the freedom of pounding the ground outside.
In the last couple of months, I eased into outdoor running. I am constantly switching between trails, grassy loops, sidewalks, and pavement now. It feels amazing. What's even more amazing though is all the things I see on my runs.
Sometimes it's the local herd of elk grazing in the meadow, or a beautiful sunrise, or a cute couple holding hands, or a smiling person walking a dog, or... you get the picture. It's something different every day.
During this morning's run, a rainy run as the sun rose and highlighted the sky in a deep purple-y blue, I started to wonder what others are seeing on their runs.
I live in a small town. Not many cars or people. I have a variety of places to run, such as a forest trail, a park loop, the side walks through the town, and my favorite, the trails that weave throughout the grounds of the old infamous local mental hospital. I see some really great things, but now I want to know what people from other areas see. Each area boasts something new and intriguing and I want to read about it.
I'm looking for other runners, or walkers (you guys see things too!), who would be willing to share back and forth the things we see on our runs (or walks). Perhaps we could keep a weekly log with a few notes from each outing. We could even go into detail on the coolest things that really stuck out to us.
I enjoy snail mail correspondence most, so that is what I am looking for with this posting. If you are a runner or walker who would be interested in something like this, please do reach out either via comment, PM, or chat so we can exchange addresses and get started!
If it matters, here is a bit about me: I am a 25-year-old female born, raised, and living in the PNW (Washington State). I am into running, hiking, long-distance walking, and powerlifting. I also enjoy baking and cooking, making cards, and reading. My job title is Community Manager and I've been working from home since long before the pandemic. I lack a social life but happily connect with others via snail mail.
I am open to corresponding with anyone from anywhere. Gender, age, location, orientation, etc. do not matter to me.
