Hi r/penpals! While I’m sitting in the library trying to work on my essay, I thought it would be fun to write my own post to aid in my search for a new penpal. A new penpal who wants to write long emails preferably, that is.

I’m a 26-year-old Dutch guy and live in the Netherlands. I’m still a student, currently doing a master’s in Environmental Psychology. I love studying this field, because I love social psychology and thinking about how to save the world from too much global warming by wielding the power of psychology. Just kidding, although I really love social psychology.

When I’m not studying, I like hanging out with friends. I also like gaming, both video games and tabletop games. I recently got a Switch and have been playing some games on that, especially Mario Kart. I want to finish some games first before buying new games, but I’m really looking forward to playing the new Zelda and Mario games on the Switch. Another thing I like is swimming and running, although I generally only run when the chances you’ll freeze off a finger is zero. I also like tv shows, movies, books (although I read far too little unfortunately), and a little photography sometimes.

Generally speaking though, I’m fairly curious and can talk about almost anything. I enjoy learning random tidbits and facts, and like discussing them as well immediately after learning them. Sometimes I spend hours trying to read into some topic I will never use again in my life. I also like being there for others, so you can also write to me about problems you have or just because you want to write it out of your system and I’d be happy to listen to them (or read them actually).

Exchanging pictures is something I would also like. Pictures of your pets, that brand new mug you just bought because you thought it was cool, the book you’re reading, the doodle you drew during a boring meeting, or just pictures of your environment to show where you spend most of your time. You could get the same from me if you want to! It’s not a necessity though and we could also add it after some messages, so don’t let this put you off if you don’t like exchanging pictures, or not want it right away.

What I’m hoping to get out of this is a penpal who likes to email back and forth, writing long(ish) emails about whatever we like. If you want to exchange pictures, yay! If not, that’s okay and still yay. Also, if you happen to have a Switch as well and would like to add me on there to occasionally play Mario Kart while we keep exchanging emails, let me know. Though that’s definitely not a necessity for becoming penpals, since it’s so different from the actual penpal thing. Well, my essay is nowhere finished yet, but luckily I still got this feeling of accomplishment from finishing this post. Hope to hear from you! :)
