I’m a 39 year old male and a 15-year cancer survivor. This year, I was officially discharged from my oncology office, so no more follow-up scans or labs, which means I am cancer free. Going through that was one of the worst times in my life, but something I would never change if I could. It taught me my own inner strength and to appreciate all the little things in life.
I tend to be introverted and slow to warm up to people. Through a difficult upbringing, I have found it hard to initially trust people. It is my defense mechanism for fear that they will use my vulnerability to somehow harm me. When I shut someone out it’s because of the fear they will harm me, and I would rather have the control of harming myself than letting anyone else ever harm me.
I am a loyal friend and can be a people pleaser. I frequently will put the needs of others ahead of my own to ensure their happiness. Innately, I am a go with the flow kind of guy and am willing to do or try most things.
