I've obviously heard of PJ before but I'm recently really getting into them. Listened to the first 3.
As far as I know, Ten was mostly the musical work of Stone and Jeff, and as Mike himself said, him and Eddie were along for the ride. And Eddie was still a rookie, he only had appeared on Hunger Strike from the Temple of the Dog album before Ten was released.
I know Eddie wrote Elderly Woman by himself on Vs., but (correct me if I'm wrong), Stone and Jeff we're still the Main guys writing the music. Vs. still carries that signature quirky Ten sound in the riffs, albeit it's more rocking.
But on Vitalogy, which sounds vastly different than the last 2, it appears Eddie called the shots, as I've read, and even played guitar. Less guitar solos, more straightforward riffs, and experiments like Bugs and the last track. I also read that Stone almost quit the band at this point.
So how did the dynamic change? The change in sound is notable (albeit good, I enjoyed all 3 records), and interesting.
