Wondering if anyone can give me some pointers, and suggestions of what to add! Thank you :-)

Peace Corps service presents major physical, emotional, and intellectual challenges. In the space below, please provide a few paragraphs explaining your reasons for wanting to serve as a Peace Corps Volunteer and how you plan to overcome the various challenges associated with Peace Corps service. This essay is the writing sample Peace Corps uses to assess your professionalism and maturity as a candidate. Please spend time editing your essay/writing sample (less than 500 words).

Throughout my life, I have always thought of myself as an altruistic person, and have looked at the world through that same lens. I have been fortunate enough to go on various family vacations to countries that are drastically different than my comfortable lifestyle in America. On these vacations, my parents made it a point to show me what others go through and how fortunate I am to have the life that I do. I grew more aware of the world around me and they encouraged me to help the less fortunate whenever I can.

Becoming a Peace Corps volunteer has always been a dream of mine. My mother was a volunteer in the 1980’s and she regularly recalls her experience with fondness and affection. I believe volunteering is an excellent opportunity to help others, while simultaneously gaining new life skills and a changed perspective of the world. In addition, she is also a middle school teacher, something I aspire to be as well. Joining the Peace Corps would not only give me valuable experience in the educational field, but would help me become a better person and the best version of myself. Through education, I can not only make a difference in the world and improve the life of others, but I can represent the United States and my community admirably.

I understand that being a volunteer in a foreign country comes with many challenges and hardships, and integrating into a new culture might take some time. Living conditions will not be ideal, and the luxuries I take for granted might not be present in a foreign country. However, my maturity and openness to change will make stepping out of my comfort zone easier, and will assuredly help me make a smooth transition into this journey. Being flexible, open minded, and easily able to adapt to changing circumstances will unquestionably make me a perfect candidate for this volunteer position, and I am confident I will thrive.
