I think I need to upgrade my graphics card, or cpu, or even both..
Post Body

Iā€™ve had my pc for about 7-8 years, I donā€™t know much about building one so I bought mine pre built.

Itā€™s been great and has never had any issues until recently. I donā€™t know if this is coincidental or not but my pc started crashing regularly after I updated my windows and graphics drivers about a month ago.

I get a ā€œVIDEO_TDR_FAILUREā€ stop code and it says ā€œnvlddmkm.sysā€ is failing.

I have done a bunch of troubleshooting including resetting my pc which did improve things, my pc crashes less frequently but still frequently enough that gaming is basically impossible and beyond frustrating.

Iā€™m thinking that itā€™s time to upgrade some parts but I am not even sure where to begin. I want to be able to play upcoming games like GTA6 and to play them smoothly. My pc struggles running some games and I really would like to avoid those struggles going forward. Most games I would need to turn my graphics settings super low to be able to play the game at all and Iā€™m hoping to avoid that after upgrading.

My pc is a Cyberpower PC Gamer Xtreme VR GXiVR8060A5 gaming pc.

  • Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 3GB
  • Intel i5-8400 2.8GHz
  • 8GB DDR4
  • 120GB SSD
  • 1TB HDD

My psu crapped out on me a couple of years ago so I replaced it with a Gamemax 1050W ATX 3.0 & PCIE 5.0 power supply. I also added a 2TB SSD card, and I now have 4 sticks of Corsair vengeance RGB pro DDR4 8GB of ram. I have no idea what I am doing and could use some help with the next steps I should be taking to upgrade my pc.
