Operating System won't load

I just put together my new computer today. Put in a SSD and my old hard drive from my old computer, since it had all my files, games and operating system on it. Well, the computer either doesn't recognize my old hard drive or is refusing to load the operating system off of it. Not sure what to do, I thought maybe I could just get another copy of windows and install it on my SSD, but unsure if that is my only option.
