Specs:-
- CPU - 12600K
- CPU Cooler - DeepCool AK620 dual tower air cooler
- Mobo - MSI MAG Tomahawk DDR4 Wifi
- SSD - WD_BLACK 1TB SN750 SE NVMe Internal Gaming SSD Solid State Drive - Gen4 PCIe
- GPU - Zotac Nvidia RTX 3090 Trinity OC
- Case - ASUS GT301 ATX Gaming case (with 3 RGB LED stock fans in the front and one exhaust fan at the back behind the CPU cooler)
Problem - While I'm gaming I am getting these max temps on my GPU:-
That GPU is running toasty but overall these are still within the operating temperatures (90 to 105C) that Micron specifies for the GPU memory Junction (correct me if I'm wrong).
Now the problem really comes in when I check the specs on my CPU and the SSD:-
CPU temps hitting 110C :( and getting throttled
The SSD Problem
The red rectangle marked 1 right above the GPU slot is where my primary Gen4 SSD is placed. In the two slots marked in red as 2 and 3 is where I've got two Gen 3 SSDs (because those slots don't support Gen 4). From the looks of it, there's really no place to put that SSD other than slot 1. Slot 2 also supports Gen 4, but it is right under the GPU and I suspect it might have worse thermals.
So what do I do?
The CPU Problem
The SSD I can understand because of the proximity to the GPU, but the CPU getting that hot baffles me. I'm only checking this now. I had no in-game stutters or anything even as it was throttling. But I don't want it to persistently get this hot.
I can't imagine being the only one with this issue. So how do we fix this?
Update:-
***SOLUTION***
Found the culprit. So today I did some testing and I spent half hour playing Control and found the temps spiking a few times. I noticed that the averages were fairly normal, it was like instantaneous spikes that got the charts in red. It's not a big deal but still I can't let this be. So as u/Rollit2017 suggested I tried to play Control with the side panel off and with the room in 25C ambient temps. And these are the results:-
I suppose the conclusion here is that my case's stock setup for airflow is shit. As mentioned at the top, the case is Asus GT301 with the stock fan setup.
So from here, what's the next step? - > For separation of topics, this discussion is here => https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/zqkfj3/need_advice_on_overhauling_my_pc_airflow_situation/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3
