thunderbolt on an unsupported z390 board?

Post Body

hello all.

so i happened upon a deal i couldn't pass up--an itx rig built on an asrock z390m-itx/ac with a 9700k in it for 200 hundred bucks, in a soundproofed fractal case. since i was thinking it might be a nice little always on audio workstation, i grabbed it.

i've heard that people have gotten the GC titan ridge cards working on these unsupported 300 boards with no headers, so i ordered a rev 2.0 and jumped the pins. i can get the thunderbolt control center to recognize and approve devices but i'm not getting any functionality. i have my audio interface, but also just a simple powered hub with a usb drive in it that works on the mainboard hub.

what's the trick with these? please don't suggest different parts--i have the option to work with regular USB which is usually fine. this is a nice to have, but as with many nice to haves, it's still kinda driving me nuts lol. i can probably replace the thunderbolt card, but otherwise let's assume the hardware is staying.

thanks beforehand for any advice! i did look at a few threads and try a few things but so far no dice. probably best to start looking a this again rom scratch and see if i'm missing something, or if it's just not workable.

one thought i had was flashing the phantom version of the bios to the board--those have thunderbolt headers and apparently work with the thunderbolt turned off in the bios, but you know, also i don't want a brick.
