Excuse my language but what the fuck are the drawbacks of eGPUs?

What the fuck is life? What was I put on this planet for? I have the dumbass thunderbolt 3 port and I’m thinking of getting a 2060 super or 2070 along with the eGPU to thunderbolt connector. But I’m curious; how much performance does a GPU lose when it’s used as an eGPU instead of a traditionally being plugged into PCIE connection? How much performance will I lose?
I’m pairing this with an i7 8750H btw
