RAM upgrading

Hi, I'm currently having 16gb of ram (2x8 3000mhz), and I want to upgrade to 32gb. Is it ok if I buy the exact kit of 2x8 and plug it in the remaining sockets, or I have to buy a new 4x8 kit? My friend told me that they work differently, 4x8 kit works better than 2 exact same 2x8 kits, and because he knows alot about how these work, I was kinda worried. Can anyone help me out? Because if I buy a whole new kit, I will waste my current one. My spec: Asrock b450m steel legend motherboard; Ryzen 5 3600; Gigabyte gtx 1660; Team t-force delta 2x8 3000mhz RAM.
