Can’t decide what to do, input welcome!
Post Body

Started looking into building a pc last summer, and ended up getting a prebuilt with a 1060 3gb in December for a decent price. Runs fine but not as beastly as what I wanted to build. Used my tax refund money Thursday to save a 1080 FE from the mines, but can’t decide how to go about my build. As of right now I can think of 3 options...

1.) Pick out all my parts, sell prebuilt, use money from prebuilt sale and a little extra from my refund to buy new parts (use my MacBook Pro for school, be without a pc for 2 weeks).

2.) Buy a new case, mobo, and psu. Move over the prebuilt’s cpu (i5 7400, so yea it’ll bottleneck the 1080), ram (8gb ddr4-2400), and hard drive (1tb HDD). Slowly buy new parts over time until I can put everything back in the prebuilt to sell it. Let my younger brother use the 1060 3gb until I can sell the pre built.

3.) Pick out all my parts, use a credit card to pay for them. Build my new pc, sell the prebuilt, pay off credit card with money made back from selling the prebuilt plus a little I put back from my refund.

I feel like each option has so many negatives and positives to consider.

Option 1 seems like the smartest route, but it’d suck not getting to play pubg for 2 weeks (accounting for shipping, build time, and problems if they arise).

Option 2 would take the longest to complete and I wouldn’t be able to fully experience what my new 1080 has to offer until I finished the build. Plus I run the risk of having to buy outdated hardware as everything gets refreshed over time. I’d be able to help my brother out a little, but his gpu isn’t that much weaker than a 1060 3gb.

Option 3 is the fastest but I hate using credit cards. I actually used one to get the 1080 FE because I had it in my wallet and my debit card has a daily limit, but paid it off the very next day. Plus, it’d suck if I had a really hard time selling the prebuilt later on and ended up selling it for lower than expected.

I’m a full time college student and work part-time at my local emergency shelter, so I don’t really have much leftover after bills (maybe $50 a paycheck). I’m really tempted to just go all out and use a credit card, then just slap what I make back from the prebuilt on it, and pay the rest with the rest of my refund. That way everything works well and I won’t have to worry about saving up for upgrades in the future. I expect to get around $600 for the prebuilt, and my build is looking to cost around $1,000 (sans the price of the GPU. So if all went well with selling the prebuilt, I’d be spending $400.
