I would either wait for coffee lake or go with the 1700.
7700k is an awesome chip and I own one as well. However my user situation benefits more from the 7700k. I have enough disposable income to switch platforms whenever I want. What I don't have is the time to tinker around with a ryzen setup.
Going intel, it's pretty much plug and play and an easy 5.0 ghz In less than 10 mins with delid.
Don't let anyone fool you and tell you that you need 8 cores to have chrome, steam, discord etc open while gaming. I7 7700k handles that just fine.
