Need some help with the first Bioshock

'ello fellow PC gamers, I just reinstalled my old Bioshock DVD, updated it to version 1.1 and the game just doesn't want to run! It hangs on a splash screen and won't run even after hours of waiting. My OS is Windows 7 Home Premium and I am sure my PC can handle this game as I played it about a year ago. Any help would be appreciated.
